Lab Modes

BlueYard has evolved to offer two distinct learning environments within its labs: the traditional Expert Mode and the newly integrated Educational Mode. Each mode is designed to accommodate the diverse learning preferences and needs of users engaging with our platform.

Expert Mode

Expert Mode is the original, classic approach to BlueYard Labs. It remains the standard implementation for all BlueYard labs, providing:

  • Real-World Scenarios: Opportunities to engage with scenarios that replicate true real-world incidents.

  • Independent Problem-Solving: A space for users to test their investigative skills by diving into data and deriving solutions without guidance.

Expert Mode is ideal for those who seek to challenge themselves and apply their knowledge in a setting that closely resembles actual cybersecurity work.

Educational Mode

Educational Mode is a recent addition to BlueYard Labs, currently being rolled out across our select retired labs. This mode provides:

  • Educational Content: Structured lessons and topics aimed to support beginners and those who prefer a more guided approach to their cybersecurity education.

  • Methodological Insights: Each lesson focuses on specific cybersecurity concepts, tools, and practices to build a strong foundational understanding.

  • Consistent Question Set: Educational Mode features the same set of questions as Expert Mode, ensuring a uniform learning experience.

Note: Educational Mode is a new feature we are gradually introducing to select retired labs. If Educational Mode is not visible for a particular lab, it means that the lab currently only has Expert Mode. We are working diligently to update and expand our labs to include Educational Mode, so please check back for updates, or you can explore other labs that already have Educational Mode enabled.
