Exploring BlueYard Lab Types

BlueYard Labs provides a versatile platform where the cybersecurity community can practice, learn, and grow. Whether pushing the boundaries with Active Labs or building a solid foundation with Retired Labs, BlueYard equips you with the skills to excel in the ever-evolving cybersecurity landscape.

Active Labs

Active Labs represent the latest released labs within BlueYard. They are designed to simulate a real-world problem-solving environment, which is crucial for honing advanced skills.

Characteristics of Active Labs:

  • No Walkthroughs: To emulate real-world conditions, Active Labs do not provide walkthroughs, encouraging independent problem-solving and critical thinking.

  • No Hints, No Guidance: Reflecting the unpredictability of real cybersecurity tasks, these labs challenge you to find solutions without direct guidance or hints.

  • Leaderboard Points: Engage with an element of competition where completing these labs earns you points, contributing to your position on the leaderboard.

Retired Labs

Retired Labs are archives of previously Active Labs. They transition into resources that support foundational learning and community sharing of knowledge.

Characteristics of Retired Labs:

  • Community Learning: Unlike Active Labs, Retired Labs often come with community-provided guidance and walkthroughs to help users learn and understand various problem-solving strategies.

  • Educational Mode: Retired labs integrate our new Educational mode feature. This mode is ideal for beginners who can benefit from a structured, step-by-step learning experience. For more information about Educational mode, please refer to our detailed "Lab Modes" article.

  • Absence of Competitive Scoring: In Retired Labs, the focus shifts from competition to education. As such, the leaderboard points system is not applicable, emphasizing learning over rankings.
