Two Paths to Certification
Path 1: Exam Only
If you are an experienced analyst and prefer to prepare on your own, the Exam-Only option lets you go straight to the certification exam. No CyberDefenders training is required; you may prepare through self-study, work experience, or any third-party resources you choose.
Path 2: Course + Exam Bundle
If you prefer structured learning, the Bundle includes 4 months of full access to course content, videos, study materials, and hands-on labs, along with the certification exam.
Both paths lead to the same exam, the same certificate, and the same Credly digital badge.
Certification Validity All CyberDefenders certifications are valid for 4 years from the date you pass the exam. This validity period was established by an independent panel of SOC industry practitioners. Cybersecurity is a rapidly evolving field, and the 4-year period ensures all certified individuals demonstrate current, relevant skills.
Recertification Options You can renew your certification using one of the following options:
Option 1: Retake the Exam Pass the latest version of your certification exam to renew for another 4 years.
Option 2: Submit 36 CPE Credits Submit 36 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits earned during your 4-year cycle through your CyberDefenders dashboard.
CPE activities must demonstrate ongoing learning and professional development in cybersecurity. Activities do not need to be specific to the CCDL1 certification — any cybersecurity discipline is eligible.

Expired Certifications If your certification expires, you will need to recertify by passing the exam or by submitting CPEs to regain your certified status.

Is the exam the same whether I buy the bundle or the exam only?
Yes. The exam is completely identical either way.
Do I get the same badge and credential?
Yes. There is no difference in the certification or Credly badge between the two options.
Can I upgrade to the full bundle after buying the exam only?
